My post Memorial Day weekend/Elliot Roger thought:In the 70s/80s, pop culture made us think gun-toting psychos would be crazed Vietnam vets. Taxi Driver, Rambo, etc. Poor, working-class guys so alienated from normal society by the trauma of war they just snapped. Besides that stereotype being extremely disrespectful of veterans (not to mention real issues of class and mental illness), who'd think decades later we'd be reading about actual horrific violence committed by an overprivileged suburban kid whose internet trolling bespoke of jealously and rage stemming from thwarted male desires?
